Description: 'Kiku-shidare-zakura' is a very popular small weeping tree with arching branches bearing densely clustered, double pink flowers in spring. Lance shaped leaves are pale green and slightly bronzed at first. Often wrongly referred to as Prunus ‘Cheals Weeping’ which has a more steeply weeping habit.
History: An old Japanese cultivar known since the end of the 19th century. Kiku-shidare-zakura means ‘Weeping Chrysanthemum Cherry’ in Japanese.
Growing Tips: Best grown in well-drained soil, in full sun to achieve the best flower display and autumn colour. Will tolerate most soil types including chalk and clay.
Height and Spread (after 10 years): 2.5m x 2.5m
This tree is in a 12L pot and is around 1.2m-1.5m
