Lemon Balm 'All Gold' is a perennial herb that is part of the mint family, it shares many characteristics with its cousin lemon balm, it too has lemon-scented leaves but it has a distinct gold foliage. Unlike it's lemon balm relation , whist being a useful and scented herb, it can be very invasive by seeding all over the garden. The gold variety is much more easily controlled, spreading to form a mound up to 45cm across but rarely self seeding. Originally from southern Europe and the Mediterranean region, it can grow up to 60cm-1m tall given the right conditions. 'All Gold'Lemon Balm will tolerate most soil types, but prefers a well-drained site in partial shade as, in summer especially the foliage will scorch if not protected from the midday sun. 'All-Gold Lemon balm is an excellent addition to the garden for its beautiful foliage alone. During the summer months it and has a small show of white flowers tinged with purple in summer that are full of nectar, which attract bees, hence the genus name Melissa (Greek for 'honey bee')
