Description: Prunus ‘Amanogawa’ - also known as the Flagpole Cherry due to its narrow shape. It is a distinctive columnar tree with erect branches. The oval leaves are green, bronze when young, later dark green, then red-gold in autumn. Dense clusters of fragrant semi-double light pink flowers in late April.
History: Introduced early in the twentieth century. Received the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit in 1931.
Growing Tips: Prunus ‘Amanogawa’ is best grown in well-drained soil, in full sun to achieve the best autumn colour. Will tolerate most soil types including chalk, and clay.
